Hmm.. if we got a camel, it could spit in the face of enemies, and I would laugh.

Can you think of any animals that have a ranged attack, camels and skunks not withstanding.

The answer to your question is NO, there are no pets that have a ranged attack.

The pets are all balanced and other than the type of physical damage they do (slashing, etc) really are not any different from each other. The exception is the bear whose special attack just slows down the attack rate without any benefit.

Adding a ranged pet (porcupine that flings spines? scorpion that shoots stingers? spitting snake?) would throw off that balance and so would not be a good thing.

Besides that, some of the pet attacks wouldn't make sense (poison bite when it is flinging a thorn?) and adding ranged attacks wouldn't work with the melee-based pets.

Guess ANet will have to rework the Paragon shout "Go For The Eyes" then.

We're not comparing two different professions, we're comparing pets. Is it balanced that your pet can attack me from 100' away while mine has to run all the way to you in order to attack? Yours gets in 3 attacks before mine even gets there? Your "strike", "pounce" or whatever skill works from 100' away and remaining still and mine has to chase down and hit from melee range?

If there were another rangerish/beastmasterish profession that had ranged pets then it wouldn't be an issue as that profession would need to be balanced with the existing professions.

Maybe they need to add birds with a...er...um...ranged "bombing" attack?
